What problem does this feature solve?

Finding the github repo for vue3 is harder than necessary. After finding and looking at vuejs you have no idea where to find vue3. Vue is vue2. Out of more than 100 repos there are six pinned. I would expect vue to be the one I want, but then it turns out to be vue2 only.

At this point I would expect that vue 3 is not temporary and that it is not just a proof of concept (next).

What does the proposed API look like?

Rename vue 3 projects as vue 3 instead of next. I know this applies to vue, vue-router. Pin vue 3 repos on the vuejs page.

repositories will be moved when we have done the new docs, which is currently the main focus of our efforts.

We won't start renaming repositories until then.
